Our missionThe 3D-LightTrans low-cost manufacturing chain will make textile reinforced composites affordable for mass production of components, fulfilling increasing requirements on performance, light weight and added value of the final product in all market sectors.

Project targets

1. Substantial increase of achievable complexity and flexibility in the realisation of 3D fabrics. Specially adapted weaving machinery will be developed to enable deep draped multilayer textiles with complex geometry and 3D reinforcement textile pre-forms with customized multifunctional structure.

2. Novel procedure for highly efficient production of TRPC parts. An enormous reduction of effort and increased reproducibility will be achieved through thermoforming of 3D fabrics made of hybrid yarn, which will be available in a variety of compositions with tailored properties.


3. Establishment of the complete manufacturing chain. Multifunctional product design and modelling, automation, supervision and quality control, as well as application specific finishing processes will be established, in order to improve existing and enable new products.


4. Enabling manufacturing of mass products requiring high customization and very short production times. 3D-LightTrans technology will be demonstrated in selected key automotive products and applicable in many other sectors, such as aerospace, consumer goods, medical devices, sports equipment and renewable energy.
